Common Pool Heater Problems

Usually, But Not Always, Low Water Pressure Is the Culprit

While a pool heater can be a wonderful convenience on those cool nights when you still want to enjoy the water, it can be nothing more than an expensive decoration when it’s not working properly. In this blog post, we will go through the most common issues with pool heaters.

The most common issue is, luckily, the one with the easiest remedy: a pool filter that needs to be cleaned. It is estimated that about 70% of all service calls involving a pool heater end up with low water flow as the cause of the problem. Make sure you’re cleaning your pool filter as recommended and check the water pressure gauge every so often.

Next, check to make sure your heater is turned on (we know it sounds obvious but trust us, it does happen) and set to a temperature that’s higher than the current temperature of your pool water. If both cases are true, check the pilot light. If it’s not on, look at the gas pressure, air supply, and venting. Be sure to make sure the gas supply valve is turned on, as well as the plumbing and filter valves to make sure they’re in the “open” position.
